Camber - PT Prep Cook

We are seeking a reliable, part time prep cook to join our small kitchen team. As the busy season ramps up, so has our demand for housemade pastries, and we need someone to assist after-hours in basic pastry prep (see below job duties). This position is unique in that you will be working alone in the kitchen after hours, so the ideal candidate enjoys working by themselves and possesses a strong understanding of the order of operations in a kitchen space. We envision this position eventually growing in both hours & scope of prep tasks, with training from our kitchen manager along the way. At this time, we can offer 20 hours a week (4 5-hour shifts per week from 4pm - 9pm).

Starting wage for this position is $18 - $20 DOE. Benefits include a free bag of coffee biweekly, discounts on bagged coffee, brewing equipment and wholesale discounts. Paid sick leave accrues at 1 hour per 40 hours worked. Reviews and pay assessments occur annually. Schedules are set & consecutive days off are prioritized for our staff.

Job duties include:

prepping pastry components such as: cubing butter, making biscuit & scone dough, glazes, streusels, separating eggs, portioning cookie dough, measuring out and packaging various dry mixes, etc

maintaining meticulous labeling & storage standards

completing a set prep list that will be assigned each day

communicating closely via Slack with kitchen manager & kitchen team as needed

washing & putting away all dishes produced during shifts

soft close-down of the kitchen at the end of your shift (taking trash & compost out, sweeping & mopping, cleaning down sinks and work area)

Applicants must:

be 21+

be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs

be self-directed, focused, and able to multitask

enjoy working solo

be able to work quickly & efficiently in a small space

possess an eye for consistency & detail

be an excellent communicator

be willing to maintain very high standards of cleanliness & organization

possess a WA state food handler’s permit and MAST certification (or ability to obtain)

Our team is very tight-knit and it’s important to us to find the right candidate. We interview in a 2-step process beginning with a sit-down interview with our kitchen manager and general manager. This is then followed by a paid 2 hour working interview. Upon hiring, the initial 90 days of employment are considered a probationary period for both parties to confirm a good fit. Food & beverage industry experience - and specifically baking experience - is a plus for this position, but we are absolutely willing to train the right person.

Resumes can be brought in person to Camber at 221 W Holly Street between the hours of 8am and 2pm, Wednesday-Sunday. Alternatively, reply to this posting. Applications can be addressed to Maple. Please include your resume, cover letter if desired, and three prior work references that we can contact.
