Whatcom Community College invites applications for a Program Specialist 2 (Class Code 107I) position in the College's Orca Central Student Support and Welcome Center. This position provides walk-in support for prospective and current WCC students by answering questions and connecting the students with WCC departments including, Advising, Financial Aid, TRiO, Transitional Learning and Running Start. This position also provides administrative support for WCC's Running Start program. This position reports to the Associate Director of Orca Central Operations.

Responsibilities:

ORCA CENTRAL-75%

-Serves as a point of contact at the Orca Central front desk. Welcomes guests in professional, friendly manner.

-Promotes programs with outside organizations. Develops and implements resources and provides information and technical assistance related to Orca Central Operations.

-Develops and delivers public presentations on program related topics to new and prospective students.

-Monitors program numbers in relation to enrollment and retention goals. Identifies areas of improvement makes recommendations for improvement.

-Creates and maintains accessible onboarding and programmatic materials such as print, online, and audio.

-Independently directs new students through the onboarding process and recommends courses of action utilizing appropriate available resources.

-Maintains and updates student information as necessary, using tools such as ctcLink, Starfish, and Microsoft Suite.

-Supports Outreach and Admissions by organizing and leading tours of campus and campus facilities as needed.

-Monitors, maintains, and updates Orca Central-related web pages and form submissions.

-Participates in on and off campus training and professional development.

-Supports departments on campus who have representation in Orca Central, including Advising and TRIO & Student Support Services, to coordinate appointments, manage in person and virtual drop-in advising, and provide relevant and timely information for general questions.

-Maintains and provides accurate programmatic information about Transitional Learning, ESOL, Adult Basic Education, High School Completion, and General Education Development.

-May supervise staff.

-Performs other related work of a similar nature and level.

-Provides translation and interpretation services in Orca Central as skills permit.

RUNNING START-25%

-Manages Running Start inbox and phone line providing timely responses, sharing information, and connecting resources as need.

-Completes data entry for programmatic paperwork and reports.

-Provides information and assistance to program participants.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

-High school graduation or equivalent.

-Two years of experience with the programmatic areas.

OR

-Equivalent combination of education and experience.

And

-Bilingual (Spanish preferred).

-Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to learn new software and programs.

-Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to actively contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity.

-Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high levels of accuracy and confidentiality.

-Ability to work independently and accomplish program goals and deadlines with minimal supervision.

-Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally with individuals and groups.

-Ability to develop innovative solutions to workplace challenges.

-Ability to independently analyze complex problems, apply knowledge and problem-solving skills to take appropriate actions to resolve the issue.

-Experience with facilitating small groups and with public speaking.

Salary:

-This is a full-time, classified, WFSE (Washington Federation of State Employees) represented position. Salary is Range 42, starting at Step C, $3,811.00 per month with periodic increments to $4,740.00 per month.

Benefits Package:

-The position comes with a full benefit package, including health, dental, life, long-term disability insurance and a retirement plan.

-Accrues 8 hours per month of sick leave and 11.33 hours per month vacation leave with periodic vacation accrual increases based on longevity.

-11 paid holidays annually.

-1 personal holiday annually after 4 months of continuous employment.

-2 personal leave days annually after 4 months of continuous employment.
