Vermont Mechanical, a leader in the mechanical and plumbing systems industry, is renowned for its commitment to quality, innovation, and efficiency. Their services encompass a broad spectrum from pre-fabrication of pipes in their state-of-the-art shop to the meticulous installation of mechanical and plumbing systems at construction sites. At the heart of their operations is their Piping Department, which is currently seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join as the Piping Department Manager.

Role Overview

The Piping Department Manager will spearhead the operational activities of both the Piping and Piping Pre-Fabrication departments. This pivotal role involves overseeing production, managing the talented staff in line with company policies, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement and professional growth. As the steward of this department, you will provide the strategic direction and inspiration needed to achieve operational excellence and innovation.

Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor a diverse team, including Apprentices, Welders, Licensed Plumbers, Commercial Refrigeration Installers, and Field Foremen, fostering a collaborative and safety-conscious work environment.

Strategize staff scheduling, training, and performance evaluations, ensuring the department's goals align with individual development plans.

Navigate technical challenges by providing expert guidance on installation and production issues, and coordinate comprehensive training programs.

Direct the Pipe Pre-Fabrication production schedule, optimizing shop efficiencies and ensuring a seamless workflow between shop activities and field operations.

Uphold the highest standards of safety, emphasizing a safety-first mindset among all staff and enforcing strict adherence to safety protocols.

Collaborate with Human Resources on hiring strategies, participate in the recruitment process, and welcome new talent into our team.

Craft and execute both short-term and long-term operational plans, aligning with the company's overarching goals and monitoring progress towards achieving these objectives.

Champion initiatives to enhance departmental productivity, quality, and profitability through innovative systems and processes.

Qualifications:

A robust background in commercial plumbing and mechanical systems (HVACR), with at least 3 years of leadership experience. Construction experience, especially in pipe installation, is highly desirable.

Relevant licenses or certifications, such as a VT or NH Plumbing license, and willingness to earn and maintain OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Exceptional organizational, communication, and time management skills, with proficiency in Procore, Sage 300, and Microsoft Office Suite.

The ability to thrive under pressure, multitask efficiently, and drive tasks to completion with precision and accuracy.

Flexibility to travel to construction sites across VT, western NH, and northern NY as needed.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The role requires occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds), climbing ladders, and the ability to navigate active construction sites with the necessary personal protective equipment.

Work is conducted in a blend of office and construction site settings, embracing both strategic planning and hands-on oversight.
