Lead Carpenter: Exteriors

Position: Lead Carpenter: Exteriors

Compensation: $40 to $50 per hour

Time: 40 hours per week; M-F 7:30 – 3:30

Location: Typically within 20 miles of Thetford Center, VT, occasionally up to 40 miles.

Benefits: 80 hours vacation time, 4 paid holidays, retirement plan, life and disability insurance, tool allowance, training/education allowance, volunteer time off.

Tasks (what you will be doing on a daily basis):

- Install applied rafter tails

- Install soffit, fascia, crown molding, shadow board, etc.

- Install exterior window and door casing

- Install siding

- Install porch trim/post wraps

- Install decking (Acre, Trex, cedar)

Required Skills (skills you must have to do this job):

- Familiarity/comfort with pump jacks, ladders, scaffolding, work platforms, etc

- Comfortable working outside

- Comfortable working at heights (fall protection provided and required)

- Flexibility around weather

Typical materials: primed pine 1x and 5/4x; pine shiplap, clapboard siding, roughsawn hemlock

Occasional materials: Acre, Boral, LP Smartside, fiber cement

Additional skills (nice but not required):

- Frame exterior decks, stairs, and landings

- Window installation

- Timber framing

The Lead Carpenter is the leader of the Exteriors Team and is responsible for managing and directing tasks of all crew members to ensure efficiency and productivity. The Lead Carpenter needs to have the carpentry skills listed in the job description, along with the managerial skills to actively manage and supervise all field crew members.
