Collaborating with academic partners, faculty and staff, the Senior Specialist, Student Learning provides strategies and academic reinforcement to students throughout their academic program and as they prepare for success with the NCLEX-RN exam. Working with students individually and in small groups, the Senior Specialist assesses learning styles, identifies strengths, and discovers opportunities for academic development. Senior Specialists create and implement personalized remediation plans for our students as they prepare for academic and professional success. In addition, under the supervision of the course faculty, the Senior Specialist may be assigned teaching responsibilities in clinical, lab, and simulation. The teaching assignments may not exceed 50% of their responsibilities per session.
ResponsibilitiesFacilitation of simulation-based experiences (SBE) and labs to include equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, set-up and clean-upDemonstrates current, detailed, accurate knowledge of concepts tested by the NCLEX-RN as well as currency in nursing practice to provide academic supportAssists in the creation of Next Generation NCLEX activities/workshopsDemonstrates effective behaviors and accountability in meeting the following standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies: Friendliness and courtesy, professional environment, effective communication, and first-class serviceCommunicates, collaborates and documents (reporting) students' academic and co-curricular progress toward achievement of student and program learning outcomes to academic leadership (i.e., retention committee)Assists in developing and implementing detailed clinically based scenarios for the simulated learning experiences, including use of high-fidelity patient simulatorsCoordinates and supervises lab experiences to ensure that students have the opportunity to meet course outcomesStaffs open lab; Provides individual oversight to students during practice and/or remediation of technical nursing skills as required by course outcomesFacilitates individual and group tutoringParticipates in and manages outreach to students with at-risk referralsAdvance Maintenance of SIMARE CENTER to include supply management, software updates, scheduling, and quality improvementSupports instruction, remediation and evaluation in clinical learning concepts including patient care simulationsCredentialed to teach and assess learningLimited instruction (Lab/Clinical/Simulation) every session not to exceed 50% of FTE per sessionEvaluates skills return demonstrations (assessing competency)Performs other duties as assignedComplies with all policies and standards
