Student Extern Health Disparities Research

Performs entry level-specific activities in support of multiple research projects and studies. Implements applied prevention projects including data collection, and assists with research/academic activities. Performs general duties related to the maintenance of the project or grant requiring judgment, initiative and independent decision making. Responsible for specific activities related to prevention projects and for completion of other tasks and activities associated with the work of faculty.Key Functions

Assist Principal Investigator and her team in all study procedures. This can include: forming and nurturing relationships with community partners, leading or contributing to the authorship of manuscripts and grant applications, and researching funding opportunities that may represent a fit between community organizations and the team's work. Other duties can include collecting data from participants during in-person or virtual meetings/interviews, scheduling and re-scheduling participants for study procedures, making reminder calls to participants, preparing study materials for data collection, and assisting the PI with compliance applications for the work. Finally, extern will assist Principal Investigator and her team with other related tasks as needed/requested.

Frequent evening and occasional weekend hours; local travel within Houston for project conduct; ability to complete tasks as assigned in a timely and accurate manner; at peak periods may be working under short timelines and stressful conditions.

Adapts to changing conditions in situations that may be characterized by high stress levels, such as project deadlines. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize time and workload, address spontaneous issues and problems, resolve conflicts, and make decisions.

EDUCATION:Required: High school diploma or equivalent.EXPERIENCE:Required: College bound or in-college students.Preferred: Interest in working with underserved populations. Experience in cancer prevention, the social determinants of health, and/or behavioral research.
