Description We are seeking a Staff Accountant for our non-profit organization located in Houston, Texas. This role is vital in ensuring our financial operations and procedures are up to date and accurate. We offer a contract employment opportunity where you will be focused on maintaining the general ledger, reconciling accounts, and preparing reports to support decision-making. Responsibilities: Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations in compliance with GAAP, agency, funder, state, and federal accounting standards and requirements. Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual closings. Reconcile payments utilizing internal tools and systems ensuring accurate documentation, analysis, and preparing reports as requested to support leadership. Maintain the general ledger, ensure the daily posting of transactions. Enter approved checks into the agency’s banking and monitor positive pay exceptions. Download daily transactions from the bank file, review, and analyze transactions; notify departments for wire transfers, ACH deposits, and credit card deposits. Review, analyze, prepare journal entries, and input into the financial system. Prepare and report daily cash balances to leadership. Assist with the annual financial audit and monitoring visits as assigned. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to research financial transactions, conduct analysis, and create reports to support decision-making and to support the agency's strategic plan. Maintain employee and proprietary confidentiality of information. Requirements Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or a related field Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) Experience with Bank Reconciliations Familiarity with General Ledger management Ability to prepare and record Journal Entries Experience in Month End Close procedures Proficiency in using Concur software Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently as well as part of a team High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel Knowledge of non-profit accounting practices and regulations would be an asset.
