SummaryThe Financial Analyst position is unique as this individual will develop and implement systems for capturing, analyzing, and presenting financial data for effective fiscal management. This position will also provide oversight of the professional fee capture and process charges via electronic system (EPIC) for the Department of Surgical Oncology.JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESFinancial Reporting Produces monthly financial reports for chairman, administrator, and all faculty to include free balance, monthly report of expenditures, expenses by PI/fund group, detail salary and fringe expenses, and charts this data as required. Prepares departmental margin report, verifies institutional margin data, produces department variance analysis and publishes chart and graph information based on data extracted from institutional reporting systems. Provides a rolling forecast of all expenses for grants and contracts for faculty including salaries, fringes, consumables, etc. Works closely with faculty to provide needed projections. Participates in and reviews ProCard reconciliations, ensures ProCard deadlines are met and expenses are reallocated appropriately with review and approval by cardholder and cardholder's supervisor.Accounting Develops and implements a system to provide accurate and up-to-date accounting of expenses and balances on grants, contracts, donor funds, etc. for chairman, administrator, and faculty. Maintains detailed transactions for all division office funds; updates and upgrades queries and reports as required; publishes reports from this data as required. Reports and analyses clinical activity including new patient/consults, clinical revenue, and work RVUs and generates monthly reports for management and faculty use. Tracks patient care costs and revenue through EPIC workbenches. Verifies price accuracy with the Chargemaster. Performs monthly reconciliation for research funds, review and confirmation for all non-research funds, and reporting of all departmental funds including PRS Development fund, Research M&O, Chairman's fund, department M&O and all grants and contracts. Develop and maintain procedures for the reconciliation and review and confirmation processes. Work with department administrator and grants and contracts team members to process ePAFs.Revenue Cycle & Charge Capture Develops, implements, and monitors processes to ensure that all professional and/or technical charges are captured appropriately via electronic system (EPIC). Reviews all charges (inpatient, outpatient, consults, ER charges) entered into EPIC by department providers, (physicians and APPs) on a daily basis. Verifies that diagnosis and procedure codes are accurate and complete. Contacts provider(s) when information is missing to request posting to system. Reviews outpatient visits, inpatient census, and post-surgical visits to ensure charges are posted for all events and documentation supports charges billed. Assists with researching diagnosis and procedure codes as necessary.Reviews charge capture and rejection data and makes recommendations for alternate coding options. Coordinates educational compliance, researches compliance issues and provides recommendations to improve documentation accuracy. Works with other departments/divisions to assure all billing and collection activities are optimized. Provides training to new nursing and physician providers and advises regarding appropriate coding and related processes.Budgeting Assist the administrator with the annual budget for the department. Input the quarterly projections into the Rolling Forecast and the annual budget through the Hyperion system. Review prior year expenses, revenue projections, budget revisions, etc. Perform the duties of Effort Coordinator for the department and work with PIs in the quarterly effort certification process. Helps with budget preparation and data entry. Tracks 30 days prospective and retrospective appointment to budget data for load leveling. Maintain master files on posted to appointment reconciliation, OR case report and OR hours reports.Ad hoc Reporting & File Management Maintains related databases and generates ad hoc reports for tracking status of charges, compliance, delivery and reimbursement. Audits pre-operative history and physical reports and post-operative reports for Joint Commission Compliance.Sets up new electronic or paper financial files as necessary to support data needs and reporting requirements. Creates and/or updates policies and procedures as required. Provides documentation for existing and proposed procedures. Organizes information for systems improvements and assists in implementation. Instructs personnel on processes and procedures and new system applications.Composes and types memos, letters, reports, graphs, tables and charts using a personal computer, word processing and spreadsheet software. Reviews institutional and financial documents required for reimbursement and/or submission of expenses. Requires proficiency using a personal computer and standard software packages. Updates, copies and distributes standard forms, lists, charts and other documents as requested or as necessary.Supports the growth of surgical services in the Houston Area Locations by preparing financial reports and monitoring activity levels.Required Education:Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related business specialty.Required Experience:Two years business experience to include project management, data analysis or accounting.Preferred Experience/Skills:Experience with budgeting, forecasting, revenue analysis, qualitative/quantitative analysis, detail oriented, strong communication skills, exceptional Excel skills (pivot tables, macros), self motivated, able to prioritize, team player.Location:Searching for candidates in the Houston area only.
