POSITION OVERVIEWApplications accepted from: All Persons InterestedSection: Transportation & Drainage Operations Reporting Location: Workdays & Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pmSubject to changeGENERAL SUMMARY:Plans, coordinates and directs the activities of groups of workers within the same department who are engaged in providing City utility services.DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Organizes and assigns the work of utility crews: monitors work in progress

Ensure that employees have adequate work supplies and properly functioning equipment to perform assigned tasks.

Analyze and resolve staff, equipment and operating problems and recommend changes to increase efficiency.

Prepare, coordinate, update, and/or refer work orders to the appropriate entity.

Creates work orders for every job that will be performed by your direct reports, review each work order to ensure completeness and accuracy with minimal errors.

Monitor and evaluate work crews' performance daily.

Reviews operations policies and procedures; recommends changes to increase efficiency and implements approved changes.

Trains new employees.

Oversees preventive maintenance of assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools.

Provides leadership to subordinates and motivational tools needed to promote growth within the organization.

WORKING CONDITIONSThe position routinely requires lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There is routine exposure to inclement weather conditions.This is a Department of Houston Public Works at the Tier 1 Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSBasic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through the attainment of a High School diploma or GED.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSFour (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field is required.A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSMay require a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
