Partnered with Anesthesiology and Critical Care, the Division of Nursing and the Division of Surgery, this multidisciplinary team performs more than 15,000 surgical cases each year in more than 30 operating rooms spanning the Main Building and Mays Clinic.The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and at least one year of recent surgical technologist experience.Shift: 10:30 am - 9:00 pmKEY FUNCTIONS· Demonstrates competency in performance of responsibilities during surgical procedures.· Plans for cases by ensuring appropriate resources are consulted for information.· Prepares all supplies/equipment necessary for cases as indicated on preference cards and has available for procedure but opens only if certain it will be needed.· Assembles, inspects and connects equipment to ensure safe, clean and correct functioning (all pieces present, instrumentation clean, assembled correctly).· Initiates patient safety measures (temperature of solutions/instruments, avoidance of pressure points on patient, instrumentation appropriate in size and nature to preserve integrity of tissues, etc.) and follows sponge, instrument, & sharps count policy & procedure.· Checks with circulator for all medications, solutions, hemostatic agents delivered to the field; correctly labels and prepares according to policy/procedure, standards of care, and/or manufacturer's instructions.· Handles, labels, and transports specimens safely according to policy and procedure.· Handles and delivers prosthetics to the field in a way that maintains sterility and preserves integrity.Education High school diploma or equivalent.Certification/LicensureOne of the following: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). New graduate must obtain and maintain certification by the 180th day after date of hire date. Employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility prior to September 1, 2009.
