We have a graduate program in school psychology that leads to students becoming eligible to sit for the credential of licensed specialist in school psychology ( LSSP ). We offer opportunities for students to master a variety of assessments including personality, cognitive, achievement, and to provide counseling and behavior therapy to children from diverse sociocultural and linguistic background.Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the School Psychology Program, mentoring students, and serving the college, university and local community. Faculty may be assigned to teach at either the Edinburg or Brownsville campus, or both, or online. They also obtain an understanding of how to work with diverse colleagues and students through the exploration of human development in social and school environments.Students who take courses in the HDSS department explore how human development is influenced by family, schools, community, and the workplace. HDSS courses help students focus on the practices of individual development and family, group, and organizational dynamics. Our current programs draw on best practices and evidenced-based research in the fields of school psychology, special education, and early childhood.The knowledge students obtain through courses in the HDSS department is highly rewarding and valuable in itself. This knowledge greatly enhances the ability of students to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives. Students in our HDSS master’s programs work closely with an extraordinary faculty comprised of prominent voices in early childhood, school psychology, special education, and educational diagnostician. Valid licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a licensed specialist is school psychology ( LSSP ) or other equivalent state licensure or certification is required to provide expert instruction and internship supervision in the evaluation of children with disabilities according to federal and state laws as applied to public schools in Texas.

Required recent experience working within a public school district as an LSSP .

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Candidate will need to have a strong background in school psychology and at least three years working experience working as a school psychologist with school districts that implement district and campus-wide positive behavior support programs designed using the science of data analysis decision-making.

Candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to design and implement course content using positive behavior support.

Strong background in research methods and statistics is also required to support program students.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have a terminal degree in school psychology or closely related field.

The candidate should have the ability to adapt to the dynamic world to utilize technologies that maximize student outcomes in a collaborative manner.

Preferred are experience with academic assessment, positive behavior support systems, thesis and dissertation committees and statistics and measurement.
