Performs basic laboratory tests including routine maintenance, repair and calibration and data evaluation on portable measuring equipment in the lower order of complexity where established documented methods prescribe how to accomplish assigned work.

Instruments include voltmeters, ohm meters, ammeters, multimeters, torque wrenches, simple pressure gauges, micrometers, insulation meggars and other instruments.

Utilizes established instructions, computer program menus, and maintenance manuals, duties are confined to basic knowledge of the function and internal operation of mechanical and electrical measuring instruments.

Applies general mechanical and physical concepts; internal circuitry; the function, application and accuracy of instruments and measurement standards used in the calibration process; and calibration practices associated with the physical and electrical/electronic instrumentation. Typically is assigned single function instruments or multifunctional instruments where troubleshooting and repair are less complex; technical assistance can be obtained from higher level employees or immediate supervisor.

The incumbent must become familiar with the technical operations/application of the instrument; and apply mathematics, mechanical and electrical theory in order to provide a quality product.

Applies standard laboratory practices and procedures including Quality Assurance and safety.

In addition to calculation of total uncertainty of specific measurement, calculations are also applied regarding correction factors and coefficients in order to obtain correct test data.

Prepares test reports showing procedure used, test results, corrective measures taken and other pertinent facts.

Data is analyzed by the incumbent to determine acceptable performance of the instrument.

Supervision Received:

Works under the direct supervision of the Program Administrator, who determines priorities and deadlines, or work is accomplished by oldest item pending repair/calibration. Most work is routine and is carried out independently within well established guidelines

Assistance is available from either higher level employees or the Product Manager for unusual situations.

Skills and Proficiencies:

Demonstrated basic knowledge in the field of Metrology and electronics.

Demonstrated ability to interpret instructions and procedures to perform routine instrumentation repair and calibration on basic testc equipment.

Desire to learn and apply QA procedures, TQM principles, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to operate basic laboratory standards to conduct calibration measurements on simple test instrumentation

Minimum Qualifications:Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent education, training, and experience in the calibration and repair of instrumentation.

Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak periods.
