 APPRENTICE MECHANICAL ENGINEER / FABRICATORSOUTH QUEENSFERRY, EH30 9SH£19,000 PER ANNUM  Progress Rail is looking to recruit an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer / Fabricator. The successful Apprentice will be learning and developing practical and technical skills, attending college and other nominated training courses, completing all relevant tests, exams and assignments to enable the Apprentice to maintain and repair all plant and equipment. Have a good understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication techniques, and industrial maintenance, alongside structured technical training, troubleshooting techniques being able to read electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings.

THE ROLE:

As an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer / Fabricator you will be required to:Assist in the fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of mechanical components and systems.Operate hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery such as welders, grinders, lathes, and presses under supervision.Learn and apply welding techniques (MIG, TIG, ARC) and metal fabrication skills including cutting, forming, and joining.Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering instructions.Support mechanical fit-outs and machinery overhauls in line with maintenance schedules.Follow all health and safety regulations, including the use of PPE and safe work practices in a heavy industry environment.Keep accurate records of work completed and assist in reporting any equipment faults or hazards.Attend classroom-based learning and complete coursework toward a recognized qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication).Collaborate with team members across disciplines including electrical, hydraulic, and process teams.Maintain and promote a safe and tidy working environment in accordance with company and legislative requirements.Comply with the Company Code of ConductAttend work and college in a timely manner and to represent the business when at college and follow all rules and regulations relevant to the training schedule.Maintain and promote a safe and tidy working environment in accordance with company and legislative requirements.Take responsibility for the health and safety of yourself, colleagues and other persons who may be affected by your acts and omissions at work and for the environment.

THE CANDIDATE:
