Under the general supervision of the Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer, the Underground Geotechnical Technician plays a key support role in underground ground control execution. This position is responsible for assisting with geotechnical monitoring, quality assurance testing, and data collection to ensure the stability and safety of underground excavations. The role contributes to the effective execution of geotechnical programs through field support, instrumentation, and sample collection and testing, helping maintain safe and efficient mining practices. The ideal candidate will be trained on the key responsibilities.Operational ResponsibilitiesAssist with the installation, calibration and troubleshooting of geotechnical instruments such as MPBX, seismographs, microseismic sensors, or related monitoring equipment.Support underground development and stope blast vibration monitoring program.Ensure the proper collection and documentation of QAQC data.Conduct or support strength testing for grout, shotcrete, and backfill, and assist with bolt pull testing.Assist in maintaining and updating the geotechnical database, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.Support laboratory mix design trials for shotcrete and backfill to validate recipes and performance.Assist in preparing QAQC reports, including test results from bolt pull testing and material strength testings.Perform visual inspections of backfill batches to assess quality and communicate any necessary adjustments to the mix or process.Support moisture content testing campaigns to support shotcrete and backfill mix design improvements.Assist in calculating and tracking backfill volumes to support stope backfill design and optimization.Perform other related duties as required in support of the geotechnical engineering team.Health, Safety, and EnvironmentComply with OceanaGold Health and Safety Policy and Environment Policy.Promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contract personnel.Report all personal injuries and incidents and assisting with investigations.Prepare and maintain an active register identifying all geotechnical risks and opportunities for the project.Actively supporting and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and the safety of others whilst protecting the environment.Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation is maintained.Undertake workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adhered to.Support incident investigations that occur within area of control.
