THE POSITIONThe Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a dedicated Transportation Technician to join our dynamic team. This entry-level role involves carrying out crucial technical duties related to construction inspections. Your efforts will play a key role in ensuring that all construction projects comply with the required codes, plans, standards, and specifications. DESCRIPTION OF WORKIn this position, you will be responsible for conducting inspection services to ensure compliance with contract specifications, with a strong emphasis on cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality standards. Your role will involve assessing completed work, reviewing unit documentation, and examining materials to verify their alignment with Department policies. You will also assist in managing the District's field construction project records and documentation, playing a key role in initiatives such as the PennDOT Project Collaboration Center, the Electronic Construction Management System, Labor Compliance, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) efforts. Your duties will encompass inspecting various stages of highway construction, evaluating grades, elevations, and the configuration of roadways and basic structures. Additionally, you will analyze work zone traffic control signs and devices to ensure they adhere to the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and applicable regulations. You will be tasked with performing essential calculations to verify material consistency, creating sketches, documenting modifications to field plans, and maintaining thorough inspection, progress, and quality control reports. Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
