DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee, you will support the Ports Program Manager in the administration of grants and management of publicly funded port projects. You will also assist in the delivery of port and private terminal projects funded through the Multimodal Transportation Program. Specific duties involve providing transportation data and analysis regarding port, rail, and inter modal freight, including impact to economic development and transportation-related technology; performing data analysis and reporting for federal and state-funded rail and port projects; and conducting research and analysis in the preparation of papers, speeches, fact sheets, and other documents for presentations given by the Ports Manager or bureau director. This position also affords the opportunity to participate in various port and rail-related meetings and seminars, as well as freight-related committees, work groups, and coalitions. The ability to understand and interpret performance metrics, policies, and program guidelines is essential in order to effectively implement recommendations and answer agency as well as external program-related inquiries. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
