JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Department of Plant Science at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position proposing, evaluating, and advocating productive and sustainable forage crop systems in the northeastern United States, particularly the inclusion of diverse annual and perennial forage species and their potential for intercropping, double cropping, cover cropping, and other crop rotations in the corn silage production systems. Specifically, the position will focus on 1) evaluating the impacts of the popular corn silage production system (corn + rye double cropping annual rotation) on soil health, pest infestation, surface, and groundwater quality, and abiotic stress resiliency; 2) proposing and studying the feasibility of renovated corn silage production systems; 3) quantifying the proposed corn silage production system environmental footprint and dairy manure handling capacity without contaminating surface and ground waters. The position is particularly well suited for an individual with solid forage agronomy, animal nutrition, nutrient cycling, soil health background, and capacity for systematic thinking and statistical analysis. The individual in this position would contribute to our forage team’s effort to establish a renowned forage program in the northeastern United States including team building process, funding acquisition, and scholarly output. The candidate is expected to interact with team members to integrate individual research projects into a corn silage production system framework.Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in agronomy, soil science, plant science, or a closely related field and be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. before the effective date of hire. This limited-term position is funded for one year from the hire date with an excellent possibility of re-funding. This position will be located at Penn State in University Park, Pennsylvania.The successful candidate will work with Dr. Guojie Wang.
