Position Summary:

The Relief Operator Lead serves as an operator for all equipment within the sawmill and planer and as a lumber inspector.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.

Operate all equipment in the facility.

Assign grades in a manner consistent with the guidelines established by the company and the NHLA.

Remain up-to-date on current lumber markets and product values.

Mark lumber for trimming to obtain the highest marketable value from the material.

Troubleshoot and adjust machine centers as needed.

Assist supervisors in leading and training employees.

Assist with maintenance as needed.

Clean and maintain working area and equipment.

Report manufacturing defects to the supervisor.

Handle emergencies and incidents according to company rules and procedures

Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.

On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.

Position Requirements: Must meet position requirements to be considered a candidate for this position.

Experience operating numerous machines/equipment in the sawmill.

Experience operating heavy equipment.

Hold and maintain a certification from the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) or have the equivalent knowledge.

Must be able to identify log species.

Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.

Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.

Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable temperatures and weather conditions.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times.
