THE POSITION

Do you have experience in the regulation of food safety? If so, this may be a position for you! The Division of Food Safety plays a critical role in protecting Pennsylvanians and our visitors by regulating the tens of thousands of eating and drinking establishments, retail food stores, and food manufacturers found across the state to ensure compliance with food safety laws.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As part of your responsibilities, you will be tasked with performing sanitation inspections at seasonal farm labor camps and various food/milk facilities including wholesale, retail, manufacturing, dairy, and warehousing within designated regional locations. Additionally, you will also be conducting FDA audit inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.Interested in learning more? Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Overtime: Occasional for training and facilities operating on non work days and outside of work hours

Travel: Occasional overnight travel required

Position will be home headquartered if applicant lives in Allegheny, Butler, Armstrong, or Indiana County. If applicant does not live in Allegheny, Butler, Armstrong, or Indiana County, the assigned state vehicle must be parked in one of these counties and the workday will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle.

The selected candidate will need to travel to counties other then counties listed on this posting to assist with coverage of various specialty inspection types, specifically Dairy and Milk regulated facilities.

Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:One year as a Food Inspector 1, Agriculture (commonwealth title); or

Two years of experience in the inspection of food establishments or food processing facilities, and a bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, or a closely related field; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.Special Requirement:This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.Other Requirements:
