Position Overview
Red Plains Professional (RPP) is looking to hire a Field Data Collection Technician to join our team in Vancouver, WA. We may fill up to two positions from this posting. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with six months to a year of hands-on employment experience in field data collection, or someone with strong academic or volunteer experience in field data collection. We’re seeking motivated individuals with a basic understanding of GIS tools and an interest in growing their skills across multiple disciplines.
The work is dynamic and broad in scope. In this role, you’ll be expected to collect field data, assist with GIS tasks, contribute to data entry, and receive cross-training in construction management. Travel is a significant component—our projects span the western U.S., and may occasionally take teams as far as Maine or Alaska. Some field assignments will require extended time away from home, and a clean, insurable driving record is a must, as use of company vehicles is part of the role.
About Red Plains Professional
RPP is a multidisciplinary firm offering services in planning, civil engineering, GIS, and construction management. A large portion of our work serves Tribal governments and organizations. We are recognized leaders in Tribal transportation planning and asset management, and we also support land use planning, clean energy development, community development, and infrastructure design.
We’re proud of the tight-knit and long-standing nature of our team. Most of our staff have been with us for over seven years. This position is an opportunity not just to work, but to build a career. The right person will have the chance to define their own path within the company. This isn’t just company PR; it is a reality. Ask me how I know. Seriously.
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should have a GIS certificate or working familiarity with ESRI GIS tools (including ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, etc.), experience with GPS devices, and experience in collecting field data. We value applicants with a strong work ethic, sound computer skills, and a desire to learn and contribute to a collaborative environment. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is necessary. A valid driver's license and off-road driving experience (or ability to learn off-road driving techniques) are also essential.
We place just as much importance on personality and team fit as we do on technical qualifications and education. A responsible, self-directed approach, good communication skills, and a willingness to problem-solve independently are qualities that will serve you well here.
While not required, previous paid experience as a data collection technician, or direct familiarity with ArcGIS Pro, will be considered strong advantages. We’re especially interested in applicants who are career-minded and eager to become part of a well-integrated, long-term team.
Our Benefits
RPP offers competitive benefits, including 100% employer-paid medical premiums and contributions to health savings accounts. Dental, disability, and life insurance are included, with vision coverage options available. We also provide flexible paid time off, paid holidays, and a 401(k) with company match—fully vested after just six months.
How to Apply
We encourage anyone interested to reach out with questions before applying. We value genuine communication and are far more interested in who you are and where you want to go professionally than in receiving a templated resume.
To apply, please email your resume along with a short message about your background and goals.
