Tier-3 Senior IT Technician at SpireTech

SpireTech is hiring! We are located in Clackamas off Sunnyside Rd, and we provide Managed IT and Cloud Services to Portland area businesses. This position is 100% remote, subject to company policies - but candidates should live in or near the Portland Metro area.

We work to promote from within, and most of our team has been with us for 5 or more years. This is an opportunity to apply for a full time, senior technical role.

We are a Microsoft Cloud Solutions Provider with a strong business focus on Microsoft 365, and candidates with experience or certifications in this area are of particular interest.

The successful candidate will have, in addition to the required client relationship skills, Tier-3 experience administering, supporting, and implementing Microsoft 365 services, Windows operating systems, Windows Servers, virtualization, switching and related hardware/software. Microsoft 365 administration and support experience is required. Microsoft certification(s) a plus. At least 8 years of Corporate IT support or experience working for another MSP is required.

Much of our work focuses on migrating legacy server environments to the cloud. You will be directly interfacing with key decision-makers at our clients to understand how their businesses function and their use of data. You will advise clients on the best route for technology to enable them to meet their business goals. We are strong advocates of SAAS solutions, SharePoint for general office work, and reducing on-premises server counts. You will also advise clients and our team on how best to approach on-premises server upgrade, consolidation, and replacement projects, and provide technical leadership in this area to our clients and team.

SpireTech is NOT a sales organization. Anything we “sell” to clients is driven by actual need, not some quotas that need to be met. Sometimes this position, which involves solution engineering in addition to performing the actual work, does require discussion of money. Your peers will support you in having these conversations if needed, but ultimately you should be comfortable proposing and discussing solutions on your own.

Candidates should possess the following skills and abilities:

- At least eight years of relevant senior technical experience

- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

- Capable of being on-time and accountable to track time spent on client work daily through a ticketing system

- Configure/troubleshoot Exchange Online, SharePoint, and OneDrive for Business

- Identity Management within on-premise Active-Directory and M365 Entra ID

- Experience managing and upgrading Hyper-V and VMware virtualization platforms

- Experience upgrading and replacing server operating systems, including migrations to Azure

- Setup and troubleshooting of network connections, firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access-points, etc.

- DHCP, DNS, and TCP/IP principles of operation, configuration, and troubleshooting

- Experience with tools commonly used by MSP’s such as PSA’s and RMM

- Apple OSX experience a plus

- Willingness to perform site calls to a client’s office for meetings, IT projects, or troubleshooting (PDX metro only)

Your primary responsibilities will include:

- Advising clients on the best way to solve technical challenges in a strategic manner

- Resolve escalated helpdesk tickets and serve as a mentor to junior technicians

- Hands-on Tier-3 technical work, but willing to work at lower levels when needed

- Understanding the language of business and communicating with business owners and managers professionally and accurately

- Understanding how clients perform their work and data is used/moved within the organization and recommend/implement improvements. Examples might be integrating different systems or automating the movement of data, reducing repetition, and replacing legacy systems

- Analyzing client project requirements, implementing proposed solutions, and mentoring other technicians in the successful completion of those projects

- Professional written and verbal communications with the client base

- Daily timekeeping
