The Plating Technician is responsible for preparing and finishing metal parts in a chemical plating process. This role ensures that products meet quality, safety, and industry standards through precise surface treatment procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and experienced in handling chemicals and plating equipment. Technician will finish parts using a hot black oxide and/or manganese phosphate chemical solution.
Responsibilities
-interface with controls to start, stop and run equipment
-ensure that water valves are turned on or off, as needed
-verify liquid levels within plating tanks
-move plating barrels from one end of the line to the other
-rinse & clean barrel after use in plating tanks
-operate overhead crane to move parts between tanks
-maintain established times that parts are in each tank
-keep the work area clean and floors washed
-load plating part barrel, based on schedule and part size (approximately 500-10000 parts/barrel)
-secure lid of barrel before being moved to plating tanks
-unload plated parts barrels and verify acceptable plating quality
-may be required to remove finish on plated parts
-complete necessary documentation and identification of work for conformance to inspection standards for the plating operation
-inform plating leads of poor plating issues, equipment malfunctions, and safety concerns
-able to run the plating process, with input on the variable process time in tanks:
-Acid tank can vary from 2 to 10 minutes
-Black Oxide tanks can vary from 15 to 35 minutes
-make adjustments in time and chemistry, based on posted instructions
-assist in the addition of chemicals to the tanks, as instructed
-assist in the cleaning and replenishment of plating tanks, including the rinse tanks, as instructed
-maintain the general cleanliness of the Black Oxide plating area
-maintain wastewater evaporator
-perform all tasks in a safe manner including wearing PPE
-log into and move parts within GS
Experience in aerospace, defense, or firearms manufacturing industries preferred
Knowledge of NADCAP or other industry-specific plating certifications preferred
