I am a professional woman (43) with severe Cerebral Palsy living and working from home in the Pearl District. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Willamette University and am a public speaker and advocate. I work full-time helping others with disabilities navigate public benefits systems, resolve debt and credit issues, and learn financial concepts. To continue my work, I rely on a staff of individuals to assist with all areas of daily living. I have a surgically dislocated right hip and a spinal fusion that make it hard to lean forward without assistance. I am highly verbal and able to easily communicate my needs to staff and train staff on all aspects of my care. I cannot walk or weight bear and rely on a Hoyer lift for transfers. While there is no full body lifting, this job involves stepping in to help me physically accomplish tasks.
Tasks include:
Housekeeping and organization
Weekly laundry assistance
Package pick up
Grocery shopping
Positioning
Dressing
Meal Prep
Driving me and my family to community outings and errands in our vehicle (a 2018 Ford Transit Connect)
Securing a wheelchair for travel in the van
Operating a Hoyer lift as a 1 person assist (training provided)
I live with my husband (37) who also has Cerebral Palsy but does not need the assistance of a caregiver. Around home, he is often available to assist the caregiving staff. Yet the ability to work with me independently is necessary as he works during the shifts.
You must be comfortable working around animals. We are animal lovers and work best with people who also love animals. We have a very sweet, non-aggressive but very enthusiastic/energetic German Shepherd mix (8) who talks a lot and loves our staff as members of the pack. We have an equally sweet, social yet initially shy small longhaired cat (5).
I enjoy writing, reading, cinema, theater, concerts, live music and dancing. On nice days, I can be found taking accessible trails through the forest or hitting the beach. I am patient, social and kind, seeking to connect with and help others in need. My livelihood and effectiveness in engaging with the world relies on compassionate, reliable, self-driven individuals who are willing to assist me in living an active life.
