Typical work involves troubleshooting power electronic circuits at board level. Other functions include building and/or modifying test fixtures/test stations in the RMA lab and creation/implementation of test plans and procedures for root cause analysis of field failures.This role needs an individual to be versatile and dynamic as the job tasks may vary frequently depending upon organizational demand and resources. Works closely with a team of engineers and technicians in problem identification and containment activities.Essential Duties:75% Primary Functions:

Investigate field failures of returned products through system-level testing and circuit board debugging.

Perform advanced troubleshooting through creation of custom test setups and use of various electrical, electronic, and mechanical measurement devices.

Compile and analyze data from field returns. Generate and present summary reports to members of engineering and management teams.

Engage with outside suppliers and labs on 3rd party failure analysis.

Collaborate with engineering team on testing to recreate failures and validate product improvements.

15% Clerical:

Analyze test data and prepare formal and informal test reports.

Generate and maintain clear test procedures, protocols and other documentation.

Update and develop policies and procedures supporting the continuous improvement of the engineering lab.

10% Other Duties:

Actively participate with fellow team members in daily maintenance of lab environment and preventive maintenance of lab equipment.

Collaborate with engineers in planning of future test plans and requirements.

Recommend and implement improvements in laboratory test equipment and facilities.

Mentor and train developing technicians, and members of non-engineering groups within the company.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in applied science in an accredited Electrical Engineering program or Electrical Engineering Technology program.

Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic schematics.

Familiarity with the use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies and function generators.

Familiarity with basic electrical engineering concepts including voltage, current, resistance, power, AC and DC circuits.

Awareness of electrical safety protocol for AC and DC circuits. Ability to perform work on electrical equipment in a safe manner so as not to harm oneself or others.

Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

3+ years of experience in electrical board level FA (failure analysis) or electrical semiconductor FA.

Experience working in a professional laboratory environment.

Ability to read and interpret data sheets for discreet and integrated circuits.

Experience trouble shooting and fault isolation of board level power electronic circuits.

Familiarity with SMU based test equipment such as parametric analyzers for obtaining I/V characteristic traces.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and relate to circuit layout drawings.

Solder through-hole and fine pitch surface mount components. Familiar with basic solder rework techniques.

Demonstrable mechanical aptitude in use of basic hand tools, power tools and sheet metal fabrication.

Coding experience in languages such as Python or C/C, particularly relating to test equipment automation and control.

Communicate effectively though written, graphical, and oral means.

Excellent troubleshooting skills, the ability to make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision

LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE: This position acts under the direction of the Manager or Director Engineering.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk; stoop; crouch; bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to differentiate colors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a laboratory environment including seasonal variation in temperatures and occasional exposure to fumes or by-products.
