JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: Full time Toddler Room Teacher (or option for part time job share)
The incoming teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing curriculum in our toddler classroom, which includes students aged 2 to 3 years. The teacher will play a lead role in classroom management, including working closely with parent helpers. A typical day includes free choice play, group time, optional themed activities or an art project, two meals (snack and lunch), and ample outdoor time in our spacious backyard. Occasional evening Board and parent meeting attendance is required.
Responsibilities:
- Help design and guide play-based curriculum, consistent with SWPCC’s philosophy
- Lead the Toddler Room class on assigned days (student contact hours: 9:05am-12:55pm, with two hours additional prep time per day)
- Work with the preschool and young toddler teachers as part of the school’s teacher team
- Help train parent classroom volunteers
- Meet with parents to provide support on issues of child development and school participation
- As a nonvoting member of the school’s volunteer Board, advise on operational matters
- Attend regular staff meetings with the other SWPCC teachers
Preschool teaching days: M-F
Toddler class: 7-9 students/day, with 2-3 parent helpers per day
Child contact hours: 9:05 AM to 12:55 PM; approximately 2 hours prep time is expected

Start Date:
Transition into SWPCC by working 1 of the Summer camp sessions with experienced teachers
Week 1: June 24-27
Week 2: July 15-18
Week 3: August 12-15
Teacher Contract start August 28, 2024
Qualifications and Compensation:
Associate Degree in ECE or equivalent education or teaching experience. Cooperative preschool experience preferred. Must be able to pass the Oregon Department of Education background check. Teacher contracts are reviewed annually. Prior to teaching at SWPCC, the successful candidate must obtain:
- Criminal background check
- Current certification in first aid and CPR for children
-Proof of Covid-19 vaccination
Compensation based on education and experience.

Southwest Parent-Child Collective (SWPCC) is a parent cooperative preschool for children aged 12 months to 5 years. Its philosophy is play-based and child-centered. SWPCC is a PCPO member preschool. Classes are held at the Vermont Hills United Methodist Church (VHUMC) in Southwest Portland. SWPCC is not affiliated with VHUMC. An elected parent board of directors administers the school.
