Whistling Duck Farm, a certified organic farm located in the beautiful Applegate Valley just outside of Grants Pass, OR is seeking a full-time experienced & reliable prep cook for our farm-based production kitchen. Knife skills are a must.
We are a 22 acre certified organic market farm specializing in fresh vegetables, seed garlic and fermented and dried foods. We have an on-site natural foods store, production kitchen and online sales website.
We make many products here, almost exclusively with our own farm produce, making this a great learning opportunity for a candidate wishing to gain some true farm-to-table knowledge.
We have a vast fermentation program including krauts, hot sauces and vegetables; a food dehydration program which leads to items such as spice blends and various chili & vegetable powders; a freeze-dryer program which we utilize to make some unique and creative products; and a ready-to-eat line including hummus, curries, salsa, salads, and etc. for our on-site retail store.
While our kitchen schedule is based on the seasonality of our farm production with its resultant fast-paced crunch times, when compared to typical restaurant work, this job is less stressful, more flexible and arguably more rewarding.
