The cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals, ensuring food safety and sanitation standards, and coordinating with the Director of Operations to plan for and order ingredients for nutritious and appealing meals while keeping costs within budget.
This position is a member of a dynamic team working in a social services setting that supports persons who may be struggling with mental health, substance use disorders, or trauma associated with living unhoused. A successful candidate will be comfortable working in this setting, will always maintain a calm presence, will work collaboratively with staff to solve problems, and demonstrate a positive attitude in a continuous learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Create and serve meals that are palatable, appetizing in appearance and in accordance with established portion control
procedures, on a timely basis.
Coordinate food service with other departments.
Ensure that food and supplies are ordered in a timely manner and are readily available.
Ensure that all food items are stored appropriately and dated properly.
Ensure that menus are created and maintained and review menus prior to preparation of food.
Assist in serving meals on a timely basis.
Assure routine maintenance is scheduled for all equipment, and report problems with equipment to the Director of Operations.
Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen.
Comply with health and sanitation guidelines.
Maintain safety compliance.
Maintain confidentiality of all guests.
Be a team player with good communication skills.
Attend regular trainings related to the performance of your duties.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
May report to other senior staff as needed and assigned.
Qualifications
2 years’ experience as a cook
Valid Oregon Food Handler’s permit
Ability to lift, stack, and maneuver object that may weigh up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, bend throughout entire workday
Great attitude, punctual, clean, and organized
Quick learner with ability to follow instructions well
Has a keen eye for detail
Team player
Motivated to learn
Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers
Excellent Understand and practice of food sanitation rules
Ensures quality food and service
Ability to pass a Criminal Background check
