Sheet Metal worker is an 8,000 hour apprenticeship program that leads to recognition of journey worker status in the sheet metal trade.

Minimum Qualifications for Applicants are:

1. Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.

2. High school graduate with at least a 2.0 GPA or a GED examination score of 230 or above for

those who took the exam before December 31, 2001 or 2300 for those who have taken the exam after December 31, 2001.

3. Must have completed one year of high school algebra, integrated math 2, or equivalent post-high school algebra course(s) with a grade of C or better, or submit equivalent math placement test scores,

A GED math score, obtained during or after 2014, of 150, is considered an equivalent.

Description of Work: Sheet Metal workers fabricate and install fittings and duct work used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in residential, commercial and industrial applications. They also install general metal roofing, flashing and siding. They set up and operate shears, press brakes, hand brakes, bending rolls, welding machines and other equipment to cut, form and attach metal together. Building commercial kitchen equipment and industrial mill jobs, built with stainless steel and thick metals, can also be part of the trade.

Work Processes for Sheet Metal: Apprenticeship consists of both on-the-job training and related classroom training. The on-the-job training consists of the following:

Approximately 8,000 hours (4 years) of on-the-job training will be required to complete this program. The work processes to be learned and the approximate hours required for each area are:

1. Fabrication and Assembly……………………………………………… 2,200 hours

2. Installation and/or Erection…………………………………………… 3,800 hours

3. Layout………………………………………………………………… 1,000 hours

4. Miscellaneous (Welding, Brazing, Soldering, Job Management

and Customer Relations………………………………………………… 1,000 hours

Total 8,000 hours

Wage Schedule: The average wage for journey workers employed by participating employers as of July 1, 2024, for Sheet Metal is

$34.80. The average wage in this occupation will be updated by the Committee at least annually and will be recorded in the minutes of the Committee. The progressive wage scale to be paid the apprentice is as follows:

1st 1,000 hour period 58% of average wage 5th 1,000 hour period 75% of average wage

2nd 1,000 hour period 61% of average wage 6th 1,000 hour period 80% of average wage

3rd 1,000 hour period 65% of average wage 7th 1,000 hour period 85% of average wage

4th 1,000 hour period 70% of average wage 8th 1,000 hour period 85% of average wage
