$25.50 - $32.55/hr Pay dependent on qualifications and in accordance with Oregon's Pay Equity Act.

Pay depending on experience and based on State of Oregon defined bona fide factors in accordance with Oregon's Pay Equity Act, plus an additional 5% for a bachelor’s degree and/or 5% for intermediate Spanish ability.

Overview:

This position performs a variety of duties related to law enforcement non-emergency call taking; responding to public inquiries; specialized administrative duties in a public safety environment; provides customer service and assistance to the public and other public safety personnel; and records processing using manual and automated criminal justice systems and police records.

Though prior knowledge and experience in law enforcement call taking or records is not required to meet minimum requirements, the City will apply preference in the hiring process for candidates with:

Oregon Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) certification

Experience with National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) or Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)

Experience with complex public safety software systems (law enforcement records management system or computer aided dispatch system)

Oregon Department of Public Safety Standard and Training (DPSST) Telecommunicator certification

Springfield Police Records & Communications Specialist Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED certificate from an accredited school

Two years of experience in an office environment with frequent public contact, multi-tasking clerical functions, and occasional stress

No felony convictions

Ability to pass a background investigation

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen

Ability to meet psychological requirements for the position

Refrain from tobacco products while on duty

Shift Work

This position requires shift work. The Records Department runs shifts between the hours of 6:30am- 11:30pm, seven days a week. The successful incumbent will be assigned an 8 or 10 hour per day shift, somewhere between those hours. The work week generally consists of five consecutive days with two consecutive days off or four consecutive days with three consecutive days off. Overtime may be required.

Oral Boards (Interviews):

Oral Boards will occur prior to skills testing. Oral Boards will occur on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

Those candidates invited to Oral Boards will be asked to provide proof of 40 wpm, net typing speed.

Free typing tests are available between 8:30am- 12:00pm, 1:30pm- 4:00pm at Lane Workforce Network, 2510 Oakmont Way in Eugene (541/686-7601). Check in at reception and ask to take the typing to test to get verification for the City Springfield. Typing verification from an Employment Agency may also be used. Online testing scores will not be accepted unless they are administered by a reputable agency. Free online typing tests such as 'TypingTest.com' are NOT acceptable. The typing test must be dated within the last 6 months.

Skills Testing:

Those candidates who score highly in oral boards will be invited to testing for the next day. Testing will occur on Thursday evening, February 22, 2024.

Candidates considered for this position will be identified through a series of screening tools and tests including an Employment Application, Written Test, Comprehensive Background, and Oral Interviews. All testing and selection processes will be done in accordance with the Oregon Veteran’s Preference in Public Employment Law.
