PURPOSE:The primary purpose of this position is to develop, implement, and monitor a district wide student health services program in compliance with state law, District policy and effective health practices. Additional responsibilities include delivery of direct nursing services to students and coordination of employee health services and training throughout the district.

Salary:Ranging from $50,942. - $95,387. withbenefits, prorated based on days worked.

Retirement Contribution:Corvallis School District participates in the Oregon PublicEmployee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee’s salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.

ExperienceRequired for this position:Nurseapplicants must have a minimum of 1 year ofnursingexperience directly managing patients with complex needs including: tracheostomies, home ventilators, and gastrostomy tube feeding. Pediatric experience is preferred. Applicants must hold a current license with the Oregon State Board of Nursing as well as a current BLS for healthcare providers card.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045). The following are examples of principle duties; however, any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.

Assist staff in identifying student medical needs at school, develop care plans for the students, delegate nursing tasks according to state nursing guidelines, and train staff to carry out these support services

Train staff in protocols for students with health conditions that may include the need for catheterization, shots, respiratory therapy, feeding tubes, etc.

Effectively work with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.

Acts as a resource person for the district and schools in health-related matters

Assists in identification and observation of students to detect health needs

Establish appropriate screening tests and do referral and follow-up as necessary on students

Conduct and/or supervise school health screenings

Consults with Superintendent, Risk Manager, HR Director, parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school health matters when appropriate

Follow up with students having chronic or numerous absences that may be health-related

Make referrals to health agencies as appropriate

Develop necessary information with regard to individual health problems of students and disseminate this information to those teachers and keep administration advised of these health concerns

By administrative or teacher request, conduct presentations and lessons to students or staff on health- related matters

Monitor any medical treatment and/or medication given to students while attending school

Advise on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases

Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools

Participate in health education and safety programs where it is appropriate

Review all student and staff accident forms, as requested by administration

Act as liaison agent to local, state and national health agencies

Assist the Administration in implementing District policies and rules, and school improvement efforts

Attends district meetings and serves on committees as requested

Perform such other tasks as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration

Respect confidential information and the privacy of students, staff and parents.

Support students and staff in the district’s career related learning standards to encourage the development of independent work skills through career exploration and community involvement.

Collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods.

Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.

Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.

Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree with current valid Oregon Registered Nurse License required

Ability to act as a resource person for the district and schools in health-related matters

Ability to be cognizant and informed of health problems and concerns of students and staff

Ability to submit recommendations that are necessary to better serve student health needs

Ability to teach/train staff on health protocols, medical administration, epi-pen administration, best practices, etc.

Ability to monitor and supervise that the necessary paperwork for tracking medical procedures, health protocols, etc.

Ability to work effectively in an environment which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform physically demanding requirements of the job

Exposure to a variety of chemicals comprising instructional and art supplies and materials.
