Entry Level Mechanic - Farm & Processing Equipment

Lazarus Naturals is seeking an equipment mechanic capable of working independently and on a small team. This position will focus on preventative maintenance and repair of various types of farm machinery and vehicles such as tractors, combines, trucks, irrigation systems as well processing equipment including chillers, centrifuges, and conveyors. Candidates will need to be available for on-call duty after hours during planting and harvest seasons and willing to travel to nearby farm sites to conduct equipment repairs. The Farm and Processing Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of machines, engines and mechanical systems on the farm and hemp/fiber processing facilities. This role will directly report to the Farm Facility and Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Farm Equipment and Assets:

Maintenance: Responsible for conducting routine maintenance tasks to keep agricultural machinery in optimal condition. This includes inspecting equipment for wear and damage, lubricating moving parts, replacing filters and fluids, and performing regular service intervals.

Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools, computer systems, and technical knowledge to identify the root cause of issues with engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, or other components.

Repairs and Component Replacement: Disassemble and reassemble equipment, replace faulty or worn-out parts, ensure proper functioning of the machinery and performance standards are met.

Repair or replace engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical components, belts, chains, or other parts as necessary.

Conducting test runs, evaluating performance, and making necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.

Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and service performed on agricultural machinery. Document the work completed, parts used, and any additional recommendations for future maintenance.

Irrigation System Mechanics: Repair and maintenance of irrigation equipment used to supply water to agricultural fields.

Processing Equipment:

Routine maintenance, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication, to prevent breakdowns and optimize equipment performance.

Reduce production downtime by performing preventative maintenance and repairs on chillers, boiler, air compressor, centrifuges, conveyors, and pumps

Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems, identifying faulty components and repairing or replacing them as needed.

Perform complex repairs including rebuilding centrifuges, hammer mills, and hydraulic systems

General:

Manage and maintain farm vehicles and forklifts inclusive of documenting maintenance schedule

Create and maintain a master maintenance schedule for all equipment to trigger PMs

Create and maintain back-up/repair parts inventory and maintenance schedule in spreadsheets/WMS

Ensure preventative maintenance and safety programs are in place, functional, and adhered to

Organize and maintain tool and parts inventory storage area orderliness

Assist farm operations team on occasion and support facilities team with repairs and maintenance as needed

Requirements and Skills:

Valid, clean driver’s license

1-2 years’ experience repairing and maintaining agricultural/heavy equipment

Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus

Experience, and other training or certification may be substituted for education

Small engine repair certification

Diesel engine repair certification

Hydraulic systems repair certification

Excellent knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical and other systems and their components

Excellent communication and problem solving skills

Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints, etc.

A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines

Proficient with Google Suite products applications especially Google Sheets
