JOB SPECIFICSThis is a one-year special project position that will expire one year from hire date.The Inventory Specialist controls fleet and equipment parts inventory, fuel inventory, assists with repairs in the shop, performs general shop maintenance activities; purchases durable maintenance assets; repairs parts and purchases shop supplies for a fleet of vehicles and equipment.DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE :

SELECTION TECHNIQUE : Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration. HOURS / DAYS : 7:00 am - 3:30 pm / Monday - Friday. Memorial Day through Labor Day hours are 6:00 am - 4:30 pm / Monday - Thursday. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs. Support and prioritize a welcoming and respectful workplace that fosters diversity and encourages contributions from all individuals; Provide inclusive and equitable service to all members of the community with dignity and respect; Demonstrate support for the County’s diversity, equity and inclusion program; Demonstrates ability to operate a variety of shop tools and equipment including, but not limited to: hand tools, air tools and general cleaning equipment; Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems and applications to enter fleet inventory and repair information, perform research and analysis and generate reports; and Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and assist with repair of heavy and light equipment and automobiles.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESMaintain fleet inventory: Maintain parts and supplies levels for the fleet; Review and processes purchase orders, invoices, and inventory totals; Process cost accounting data into computer systems; Audit and stocks parts bins to validate inventory; and Receive and label incoming parts including assisting with loading and unloading of deliveries. Develop and report performance measures related to fleet inventory management and overall costs of fleet ownership Maintains fuel inventory and fuel system as all county locations.Track and account for repair orders: Process repair orders; Charged back repair costs to the appropriate vehicle and department; File repair orders by department, Pull obsolete files and create new files when new equipment is purchased; Track and verify orders and vender costs; Update and maintain department files and information; Coordinates maintains records in area of assignment to ensure accuracy; and Maintain warranty documents, parts lists and manuals for each fleet unit.Process electronic fueling: Research, recommend and implement procedures for fuel records management; Monitor gas and diesel use, miles and hours for each vehicle; and Calculate usage rates and flags unusual consumption rates for attention. Coordinate fuel purchasing, inventory and management for public works and with other county departments.Assist with maintenance activities: Prepare parts for installation in equipment; Return used parts to vendors for credit or repair when covered by manufacturer warranty; Provide assistance with maintenance of small engines or other assistance to Fleet Techs; Inspect vehicles and identify needed maintenance; Assist with parts identification, research manuals and parts lists to identify proper parts; and Compile, calculate and prepare reports and billings pertaining to fleet maintenance. Inspects fuel sites to ensure compliance with required standards. Provides training to other staff on usage of equipment including lift truck training.Perform other related duties as assigned.WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is semi-sedentary in nature in public works department with a lifting requirement of up to 60 pounds on an occasional basis. Operates shop equipment tools (power tools, air tools, equipment and machines) and operates standard office equipment.Exposed daily to petroleum products, cleaners, unpleasant odors, fumes and various chemicals classified by OSHA as hazardous used in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Exposed to daily to loud noise requiring hearing protection.
