Job Description

HII is in need for a Materials Engineer who manage high-level knowledge and experience with various analytical instrumentation, used to collect and interpret data. The Materials Engineer will work with Geometry and Material Properties team to provide support to NASIC mission. This position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and diplomacy. The ideal candidate is an experienced logician with experience in with NASIC mission, policies and procedures. Requires Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance at the time of application

Essential Job Responsibilities

Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Comprehend multiple aspects of characterization equipment, configurations, operation, and troubleshooting procedures. This includes:
o Operation, configuration, and maintenance of Laboratory equipment. o Fabricate, prepare, and analyze test specimens. o Identify necessary testing procedures based on requirement and material application. o Author, review, and edit technical analysis reports. - Basic understanding of resource databases and processes. - Experience with SEM-EDS, XRF, OES, FT-IR Spectrometer, Raman Spectrometer, Hardness Tester, Pycnometer and Tensile/Compression Tester. - Identify necessary testing procedures based on material applications. - Perform fabrication and preparation of sample analysis per instrument. - Perform proper interpretation and processing of collected data. - Author, review, and edit analysis reports derived from collected data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Requires Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance at the time of application
