Job Title: Site Safety RepresentativeJob DescriptionOur client is one of the largest contractors in the area, known for their commitment to safety and excellence in construction. With a long-standing history of maintaining a robust safety program, they have relied on a dedicated team to oversee all safety operations. As the current Safety Director, who has served for 39 years, is retiring, and his associate of 9 years is being promoted, they are seeking a new Site Safety Representative. The ideal candidate will join a collaborative team environment, sharing responsibilities and working closely with the promoted associate to ensure continued safety and compliance across all projects.Responsibilities
Train, direct, and oversee jobsite safety practices, including worksite safety, traffic control, fire prevention, and hazardous chemicals.
Conduct jobsite safety meetings and 'toolbox talks.'
Communicate with subcontractors’ safety personnel to ensure they maintain safe practices.
Provide assistance to jobsite supervisory personnel to ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
Administer and support all company safety programs to ensure adherence to Isolux/INDOT/OSHA rules and regulations.
Conduct jobsite safety training, orientations, audits, crane lift plan development, and rigging inspections.
Identify jobsite safety risks and develop action plans to mitigate or eliminate risks.
Review documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete and accurate.
Work with Human Resources to report and monitor Worker’s Compensation injuries.
Document all accidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions, preparing necessary reports.
Accompany safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk-through tours.
Assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations.
Collaborate with the Director, HSE, and VP, Finance, on safety-related purchases and reporting.
Perform PPE supply checks regularly.
Plan and schedule work with the Project Manager to identify and prepare for higher-risk activities.
Conduct tool checks and ensure proper use and maintenance of safety equipment.
Conduct daily safety inspections and audits at various jobsites.
Lead safety meetings and training sessions for employees and subcontractors.
Review and update safety protocols and procedures.
Investigate and document any incidents or near-misses.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to address safety concerns.
Prepare and submit safety reports and documentation.
Travel statewide to different jobsites as required to oversee safety operations.
Spend approximately 75% of the time in the field.
Attend pre-construction meetings monthly.
Maintain vigilance and high hazard recognition to proactively address potential safety issues.
Ensure not to become overly familiar with superintendents to maintain professional boundaries and ensure work is being done safely.
Essential Skills
Industry-related college degree (Construction or Safety) and 1 year experience in a field safety position, or 5-6 years of field experience if no degree.
Ability to climb 40ft above ground (No Fear of Heights).
Ability to be flexible (potential to travel from one side of the state to the other in the same day).
Valid Driver's License.
Ability to listen and develop relationships with employees and influence a culture of safety.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
OSHA / CHSO certifications.
Spanish Bilingual.
Competent person certification (excavation).
Traffic Control experience.
INDOT experience.
Erosion Control experience.
Work EnvironmentThe role involves spending 75% of the time on-site and 25% in the office for reporting and administrative tasks. The work environment is dynamic, requiring travel to different jobsites statewide. The position includes conducting daily safety inspections, leading safety meetings, and coordinating with project managers and site supervisors.
