Primary Purpose of Job: Support Continuous Improvement and Manufacturing Engineering activities while gaining experience with manufacturing engineering and lean-manufacturing tools in a heavy-manufacturing environment. Assignments will include identifying and eliminating waste in manufacturing operations and root-cause problem solving of throughput and quality problems. While an internship with Howmet provides you with invaluable experience that you could utilize in any role, our goal is to evaluate interns for potential entry-level openings. Daily Job Duties and Goals to be accomplished: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performing observations on the shop floor to identify opportunities for improvement.
Working with operators to identify and implement improvements to eliminate waste and meet targets.
Participate in root-cause problem-solving and kaizen activities to eliminate causes of throughput, productivity and quality problems that keep us from meeting targets.
Learn and apply lean-manufacturing techniques, including problem-solving, kaizen, standardized work, process management, visual management & 5S.
Basic Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree or master’s degree program in one of the following: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
Minimum completion of Sophomore level coursework from an accredited institution.
Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
Employees/Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.
Comfortable working on shop floor in manufacturing environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.
Strong background with Microsoft Office apps, especially Excel and PowerPoint
Relevant internship/work/research experience a plus.
