Clinical Laboratory Technician

New York, Rochester, 14602 Rochester USA

Vacancy caducado!

Description:The Neuroimmunology Laboratory performs a unique clinical autoimmune serology service by bridging autoimmune neurology practice and cutting edge research. Autoantibody tests performed on serum and spinal fluid aid the diagnosis of autoimmune disorders of brain, nerve and muscle that often reflect immune responses initiated by an unsuspected cancer. These disorders are usually mistaken at the start for multiple sclerosis, stroke, and untreatable degenerative disorders. Serum autoantibodies specific for neurons, glial cells and muscle are detected by tissue and transfected cell-based fluorescence microscopy, radioimmunoassays, flow cytometry, western blot, ELISA, and chemiluminescence assays. With the multiple testing methodologies performed in the lab, there is an equal opportunity for automated and manual testing. The lab is quickly growing and has experienced double digit year over year growth for the last 10 years, which translated to about 2.2 million tests in 2022. Due to this rapid growth the lab is working on implementing an automation line, comprised of Hamilton Stars to help make the testing process more efficient. This role is in the Neuroimmunology Lab. This has historically been one of the more difficult labs for entry-level graduates due to the complexity of the work being done, the level of attention to detail required, and the effects that errors may have on patients.Skills:Laboratory, Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist, biology, specimen processing, chemistry, instrumentationTop Skills Details:LaboratoryAdditional Skills & Qualifications:Must Have: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a human biological science is required.
