ResponsibilitiesGeneral Purpose :Performs advanced accounting work requiring knowledge and application of accounting theory, techniques and practices. Responsible for the monitoring and management of Department of Neurosurgery financial activity including a portfolio of operating, gift and endowment accounts. Works closely with the Administrator II/Finance Manager, Grants Administrator, Department financial leadership and other departments across the institution. Supports Department of Neurosurgery’s clinical and central administration operations requiring intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Gathers, analyzes and interprets data and disseminates information appropriately.Responsibilities :Financial Forms and Invoicing

Prepares and processes invoices for physician service agreements on a monthly/quarterly basis tracking accounts receivable from both University affiliates and non-affiliates to ensure timely payment. Investigates and follows up on outstanding receivables as needed.

Reviews and tracks the processing of University Forms and invoices according to established policies and procedures including employee expense reimbursements, Procure to Pay requests, 312 requisitions and Petty Cash.

Prepares and submits extra/incentive compensation as directed by the Chair and financial leadership.

Provides procurement support as needed, applies understanding of procurement and payment policies and internal controls to ensure best practices are utilized.

Prepares personnel forms/salary distribution changes for processing as needed.

Monthly Analysis and Reporting

Performs monthly accounts analysis; maintains and distributes financial reports on accounts as assigned.

Updates spending and projection on customized reports, utilizing historic trend and account specific knowledge to create an accurate financial picture.

Participates in regular financial review meetings to communicate updates/issues with accounts.

Provides data and analytical support for business plan development and understanding revenue and charge trends as assigned.

Develops a variety of spreadsheets on an ad-hoc basis; performs additional financial/accounting duties as needed.

Creates new reports to target departmental strategic initiatives and financial objectives.

Monthly Reconciliation

Reconciles non-salary and personnel expenditures monthly by reviewing University ledgers, Cumulative Salary Reports, Procure to Pay (P2P), Employee Expense Reports and other supporting documentation. Utilizes URGEMS for reconciliation process, in conjunction with UR Financials, COGNOS, HRMS and other diagnostic tools.

Ensures transactions are in accordance with Sponsor, University and Departmental policies. Investigates any discrepancies and takes corrective action as needed including preparation of journal entries.

Updates effort projection workbooks on a routine basis and identifies upcoming salary distribution changes required.

Tracks submission of payroll action forms and ensures HRMS appropriately reflects planned distributions.

Develops standard processes and best practices for internal controls and strong fiscal management.

Budget and Variance Analysis

Assists in annual operating and capital budget preparations and submissions.

Analyzes and prepares budget and FTE modifications in accordance with operational changes.

Participates in variance reporting and analysis on a monthly basis. Liaisons with institutional finance offices on department financial performance and budget submissions and modifications.

Creates templates and tables to assist with managing budget variances and business improvement plan activity.

Other duties as assignedQualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting

3 years professional accounting experience

Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Strong analytical and organizational skills with keen attention to detail and value of data integrity.

Positive customer service attitude with strong communication skills, including written communication.

Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

Shows initiative and resourcefulness in managing priorities and takes responsibility for accomplishing his/her own work while maintaining confidentiality of information.

Microsoft Excel spreadsheet development experience.

Experience with UR accounting and payroll procedures preferred. CLASP certification preferred - candidate lacking this certification will attend classes upon hiring and is required to successfully obtain certification.
