We have an independent auto repair shop located in Brooklyn and are looking for an experienced technician who would be interested in becoming a service writer/advisor. A little bit about our shop:
●We are a pretty busy shop and have been in the business for over 30 years.
●We have been able to create a steady flow of customers by being honest about expectations and what can be done. We may not be the cheapest shop in the area, but we will always get the job done to the very best of our ability. Quality to us means everything. Little details are what set us apart.
●We are very aware of the changes in our industry and we're trying to create a shop that will keep up with the times. We are focused on training each of our technicians to become the best they can be.
●We have a really good group of people working with us. Everybody who is on our team is passionate about the industry. Everybody understands what our vision is and wants to make it come true. At the end of the day if the shop does better, we all do better.
●As much as we like to communicate with customers, we love to communicate with our staff! We have 1-on-1 meetings pretty often. Communication is extremely important to us, as it creates an open and honest environment for everyone. We also have weekly catered team lunch meetings. Where we all sit, eat and talk about any updates we have with the shop, as well as any wins or opportunities for us to improve. It's a great time to bounce off ideas anybody has, as we believe in order to create the best work environment we need to be able to put all our thoughts together.
You may be thinking with all these great things we have to offer, why are we looking for a service advisor on craigslist? Well the truth is we have hired a couple of service advisors in the past, but we haven't found a person who can fill the role to the level we would like. We believe it is because we have not looked in the right direction. We keep getting service advisors who are just trying to sell, sell, sell. This position is not about selling, it's about advising. A customer comes in with an issue, and we offer options on how to resolve it. We don’t need to push or use scare tactics, because at the end of the day it is the customer's decision what they want or don’t want to do. All we have to do is be honest, transparent and realistic with customers. If you're honest with customers there is really no need to sell. The customers who get it, get it, and those who don’t, then maybe our shop is not for them. We truly believe it's that easy, and this is how we have been able to run a successful shop for the last 30+ years.
So now that you have an idea of what we can offer/what we are looking for, here is an overview of the responsibilities this position will have:
●Communicate directly between our mechanics and customers - we try to make every customer interaction as transparent as possible so having technical experience is essential for this role.
●Set up estimates based on what our mechanics find on the job - focus on why the customer came in and advise of any recommendations based on severity.
●Be able to communicate to customers in an easy manner and explain complex ideas in a simple fashion.
●Source parts and set up labor for each job. We have Mitchell, ALLDATA and IdentiFix as guidelines for labor lookup.
●Call customers to advise them about service changes or car pick-up times. Create good communication between customers to ensure repeat customers.
Requirements for the position:
●Must have Mechanic/Technician Experience
●Pleasant and friendly demeanor
●Strong organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills
●Tech Savvy
●You don’t need to necessarily have service advisor experience as long as you have the mechanic/technician experience, we are willing to train the right candidate
