CHV Arts & Services is looking for a part-time (2-3 days per week) experienced frame fitter to join its high-end Chelsea studio for the summer of 2024. There is potential for the position to grow into full time/part time permanent in the fall. Our clients include museums, galleries, fine-art collectors and artists - demanding and particular work requiring superior craftsmanship. The ideal applicant would be an organized, reliable, self-sufficient, meticulous, and mature individual who can work well with our talented and friendly team.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Previous work in art preservation (conservation, art handling, fitting, mat cutting) preferred.
Responsibilities would include:
o Proper handling of valuable and sometimes fragile artwork
o Measuring artwork and determining appropriate dimensions
o Cutting framing materials to size - particularly museum board
o Knowledge of and practice with archival hinging techniques
o Measuring, cutting, installing frame glazing and fillets
o Packing artwork safely for transport /storage / shipment
Bonus points:
o Able to lift 40 – 50 lbs (supplies)
o Packing and building crates
o Makes a great playlist
