Responsibilities include: bathing and toileting, transfers using a Hoyer lift, mild wound care, potential meal prep and feeding, putting on a CPAP mask for bedtime, emergency overnight care. This is an overnight role. A separate bed and sheets will be provided for the caregiver. The caregiver is allowed (and expected) to sleep for most of the shift, and is expected to help the patient get dressed and out of bed in the morning.
The patient is an individual in his late 20s who is completely paralyzed and wheelchair-bound with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He is otherwise fully present mentally and can communicate his needs clearly.
This is a part time role and is not expected to exceed 2-3 nights per week. It is ideal for individuals seeking a position with flexible hours that can provide experience in health and patient care, along with supplemental income during off-work hours.
Hours can be adjusted upon negotiation, though we have a strong preference for individuals who are available at fixed times each week.
For previous candidates, the job hours have historically been Tuesday to Friday evenings, from 7pm to 7am.
Though we have a slight preference for individuals with current or future careers in healthcare (e.g. nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, pre-medicine, special education), no PCA or healthcare experience is needed. Patience and a willingness to learn are the key qualifications. Students welcome.
We will check references. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
