WHO WE ARE
Aita, and our speakeasy cocktail bar right next door called Mayflower – named after the flower symbolizing hope & new beginning – has been serving the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn since May 2012 with sister establishments: Aita Trattoria in Crown Heights (now Briscola Trattoria), LaRina in Fort Greene, and Impasto Pizzeria nearby. As an Italian restaurant we cook inventive, rustic, honest food that brings back traditional and nostalgic flavors. Chef/Owner Roberto Aita's menu (executed by Chef de Cuisine Lionel Escandon) changes seasonally and sources directly from local farms and our green markets' bounty.
Our beverage program – which has been featured in Forbes, Grub Street, Punch, Martha Stewart, and more – is curated in support of local, sustainable, minorty-owned, and female-led teams. The wine list has been comprised of natural wines since opening day. Not because it's hip but because this is how our ancestors started making wine! Our cocktail list mimics our food menu's seasonality with the OG Negroni, Negroni Bianco, and the Venetian-style Spritz being what we're most known for, as well as our enthusiasm for zero-proof offerings. We host Aperitivo Hour every day until 7pm which features over two dozen Aperitivi.
The front-of-house team is led by Managing Co-Owner/Beverage Director Althea Codamon (formerly of Union Square Hospitality Group, Crafted Hospitality, Happy Cooking Hospitality, Epicurean Restaurants, and more). She has spent half of her life working in restaurants and bars, and over a decade in the hospitality scene all throughout New York City after graduating from The Culinary Institute of America. She aims to share her passion, knowledge, and excitement for hospitality – and all things food & beverage – in a way that excites and motivates her team every day.
