Job DescriptionSince 1917, the Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) has been securing better futures for NYC educators. With a pension fund valued at approximately $120 billion, TRS serves over 215,000 members, providing them with retirement, disability, and death benefit services.TRS' Qualified Pension Plan (QPP) is a defined benefit plan that provides members with a monthly retirement allowance upon meeting certain eligibility requirements. TRS members can also enhance their benefits with a Tax-Deferred Annuity (TDA) Program, which offers multiple investment options and tax-deferred earnings.Our Summer Internship Program is a twelve-week program that offers students the opportunity to gain rewarding work experience, while also making important contributions to the City of New York. During the program, interns will support departmental projects, work alongside experienced professionals, and participate in enrichment activities such as networking events and training workshops.Available Work Assignments:Data Warehouse: Assist in establishing procedures for maintaining content on Tableau Server, transferring descriptions and definitions from the TRS Data Catalogue to Tableau Server Catalogue, and potentially building a model or dataset for web pattern analysis.DevOps: Collaborate with SQL Administrators to document and automate SQL data processes, review and understand existing SQL scripts and procedures for projects such as AlwaysOn Availability management, and assist the Development DB Architect in documenting business rules for table population and data propagation to test environments.Executive Internal Communications: Assist with coordinating the 13th Executive Directors’ Town Hall, including organizing staff questions, reviewing script, and writing a summary article for our Intranet. Additionally, assist with writing, copyediting, and prooing other executive material/projects.Fraud Risk: Using research, logical and technology skills, assist the Fraud Risk team with identifying missing and ineffective controls for high-risk processes, and the creation of fraud awareness materials.HR Operations: Learn and support key processes within Human Resources such as Timekeeping and Payroll. Assist the team in organizing folders, updating information in Excel, and supporting Summer Internship Program activities.Accounting: Assist with reviewing and processing unclaimed checks, performing daily bridging and monthly payable reconciliations. Support accounts receivable, accounts payable, and completed accounts reviews. Run system verification inquiries and conduct daily accounting reconciliation tasks.Internal Audit: Learn about Internal Audit by performing readiness assessments for implementing new IIA Standards, updating audit manuals and workpaper templates to align with these standards, and shadowing auditors on the team.IT Application Development: Assist in developing business applications, creating tools and utilities to aid in application development, contributing to Data Warehouse and Data Analysis tasks, and supporting database maintenance along with related documentation activities.IT Infrastructure: Assist in implementing and troubleshooting Applocker for all TRS workstations, documenting the Backup and Restore process, implementing and troubleshooting default Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies in the Forcepoint system, creating documentation for IT Operations on troubleshooting proxy issues and integrating Vulnerability and Patch Management processes.Project Management: Support IT Infrastructure and Modernization projects, including Mendix Proof of Concept (POC). Take meeting minutes, support Project Managers in communicating project statuses, and assist with Tableau visualizations and Azure DevOps (ADO) updates.Service Desk: Support Service Desk calls for troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of Windows workstations and printers. Roll out PCs, monitors and printers to users and configure user profiles. Work with telecommunications and IT asset management teams to support day to day tasks.Business Analysis: Support the review and cleanup of the Agency's intranet. Support reconciliation and updates to the TRS file register. Participate in and support business analysis initiatives.SUMMER COLLEGE INTERN - 10234QualificationsAs of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
