Technician III- Das Lab CVMAPPLY The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a collaborative and mission-driven Technician III to support and manage the in the Department of Biomedical Science. At the Das lab, we aim at exploring genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that govern chromosome inheritance during meiosis and early development. This position is for a chromatin biology and epigenetics laboratory utilizing cell biology and genetic techniques to understand how certain epigenetic marks are inherited through special challenges in oocytes and embryos to preserve genome integrity.What you will do:Under the direction of the principal investigator, you will divide their efforts between independent projects, animal husbandry (mouse and fly work), basic experimentation, lab organization, lab management, and maintain mammalian cell lines when needed. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:Animal husbandry and handling - maintaining animal colonies (breeding and weaning), genotyping mice, mouse colony management, performing mouse dissections for collecting oocytes, embryos and somatic tissues, tissue harvesting and processing, maintaining fly stocks and managing fly room, communicating with the PI and lab members regarding availability of mice for experiments.Lab management and maintenance - maintaining an inventory of lab supplies, ordering lab supplies as needed, correspondence with sales representatives and vendors, maintaining lab equipment, preparing and labeling lab waste for disposal, ensuring that all lab personnel adhere to lab-safety protocols, supervising, training and assisting undergraduate research assistants, onboarding new lab members.Participation in lab - research as supervised by the principal investigator - Collecting mouse tissues and samples as needed, managing fly stocks as needed, performing techniques such as PCR, in vitro transcription, immunofluorescent staining and confocal microscopy, occasional use of molecular biology techniques, western blotting, data acquisition, image quantification, and analysis, sharing scientific data in the form of presentations at group meetings or seminars. Be engaged and participate in scientific activities such as seminars and lab meetings, in addition to their experimental obligations.This position is 39 hours per week. While normal business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, specific schedules may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University holidays and scheduled breaks.This is a one-year term position; reappointment will be contingent upon funding and performance. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.What you will need:Associate's degree in biology or a related field and up to 2 years relevant experience working in a research lab or equivalent combination of education and experience.Proficiency in basic lab techniques and principles of molecular biology required.Excellent written and oral communication skills along with interpersonal skills and ability to work independently as well as with other lab members required.Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail required.Must be proficient in basic computer skills.If you have all those things, great!
