We are currently recruiting for a MANAGER OF EMBEDDED SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT in Greene, NY.

Job Summary
  • Manager of Software Development Engineering is responsible for overall leadership, development, and delivery of high quality software products. This position will provide leadership in the areas of Real Time Embedded application, Telematics Products, and IoT elements, as well as Foundational system development. Manages and leads R&D and technical software programs, using both internal and 3rd party resources, which result in new and/or improved product, increased output and/or reduced costs.
  • Responsible for:
    • Ensuring new developments are in alignment with global software architectural strategy.
    • Ensure all projects have meaningful milestones and perform periodic reviews to ensure projects are on target.
    • Maintain overall software resource loading for teams & adjust allocations to ensure project milestones achieved.
    • Maintaining relationships with all 3rd party contractors and internal senior level team members.
    • Identify & Implement programs to continue to improve the development of software staff / key resources.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Acts as technical Project Director for major programs, providing technical and administrative guidance for projects.
    • Ensure new programs adhere to and are in alignment with architectural roadmap.
    • Monitors programs performance for schedule, technical soundness, quality, field reliability and financial objectives. Identifies and implements corrective actions, as required.
    • Acts as Principal Technical SW resource for leading discussions with Senior developers.
    • Creates and ensures mentoring programs for newer personnel is implemented in the organization.
    • Creates and executes continued training for Senior Developers to ensure latest technology continues to be applied / available.
    • Develops strategy, identifies/pursues/captures new outsourcing / contracting opportunities including creating RFQs and RFP’s, leading negotiations with commercial contractors to meet goals.
    • Manages spend versus budget.
    • Develops working relationships with other functions (engineering, operations, finance, etc.).

    Required Education, Experience, & Skills Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent.
    • Master’s degree is preferred.
    • Program Management Professional (PMP) Certification or working towards PMP Certification, preferred.
    • Minimum 12 years of technical engineering experience.
    • Minimum 5 years of technical management experience.
    • Demonstrated in-depth technical skill in embedded code development.
    • Demonstrated technical skill in developing architecture that can be applied over diverse product line.
    • Demonstrated ability to build strong vendor / contractor relationships.
    • Demonstrated expertise in adding value through leadership by building strong high performing, geographically diverse teams and achieving successful outcomes on complicated programs.
    • Experience with product development, production, and application/platform integration projects and working in an Integrated, multifunctional, team environment.
    • Demonstrated application of cost control, schedule, and risk and opportunity management.
    • Very strong presentation and organization skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in business case development, analysis and presentation.
