The Research Technician will monitor and operate chemical processes and plant utilities under the direction of chemical engineer. Key Responsibilities
Perform laboratory experiments up to kilo-scale involving hazardous materials under the direction of a chemist or chemical engineer
Work includes support for lab experiments, calculations, data analysis, maintaining records, and the accurate reporting of data
Perform troubleshooting on kilo-lab scale equipment.
Perform routine lab HSE and HOS tasks
Technical Skills
Must be able to work safely with hazardous materials including hydrofluoric acid (HF), fluorosulfonic acid (FSA), and BF3
Must have good chemical knowledge and mechanical aptitude to assemble, run and troubleshoot chemical experiments and equipment
Must be familiar with chemistry fundamentals such as units, nomenclature, moles, formulas, stoichiometry, acids/bases/salts, pH, chemical reactions, gases, solutions, and calculations involving these concepts
Must be knowledgeable in laboratory techniques such as use of glassware, compression fittings, use of gas regulators, titrations, crystallization, distillation, vacuum distillation, high pressure autoclaves, high and low temperature techniques, handling of air and moisture sensitive materials and vacuum line manipulations
Must be able learn, operate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation such as FTIR, UV/Vis, GC, NMR and others
Required to keep a laboratory notebook, communicate results and observations
Be able to use computer software such as Microsoft Office, SAP, and process control software
Physical Requirements:
Able to move up to 600lb drums/dewars, and 250lb gas cylinders utilizing appropriate handling equipment, lift and carry up to 35lb pails/containers, climb ladders, and wear all required PPE and respiratory equipment.
The salary range for this union position in New York is: $78,000.U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.YOU MUST HAVE
Minimum of a two-year chemistry related degree is required, or 5 years total chemical operator experience with minimum 1 year in Pilot Plant
