Use the resources found in the Attendance Toolkit that was developed byAttendance Works,a national organization dedicated to improving policy, practice, and research around attendance.
Train teachers and teaching assistants on the effective use of the attendance-improving strategies in theAttendance Works
Consult with parents via telephone, mail, and home visits to address irregular or unusual attendance patterns of students.
Assist in directing parents to the appropriate resources within the school and outside of the as needed.
Work closely with the social work team, administrators, school nurse, director of special education to address issues of attendance.
Advise the administration on attendance incentives, policy, and procedures.
Record and monitor student attendance daily.
Track excused and unexcused absences.
Monitor student tardiness or early release.
Schedule appointments for students and/or parents to speak with a school social worker or the school nurse.
Facilitate parent-teacher conferences when chronic absenteeism is affecting students' academic performance.
Work with parents to develop an attendance improvement plan.
Educate parents and students on the importance of school attendance for ongoing success.
Participate as an active member of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports Team (MTSS).
