This is a management position at Earth Care. Earth Care is a community-based organization founded in 2001 that trains and supports youth and community leaders working to advance social, environmental, and climate justice and equity in northern New Mexico. Projects and campaigns our members have organized include: YUCCA (Youth United for Climate Crisis Action), the Santa Fe Mutual Aid Network, Abriendo Puertas parent leadership academy, and many more.
This position will manage and support Earth Care’s Environmental Justice programming. Our environmental justice program is partnering with the City and County of Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Public School District, the Health Equity Partnership, Main Street NM, and the Southside Business Council to address environmental and public health challenges on the southside of Santa Fe through a community-led health assessment and collaborative problem-solving framework. This initiative will result in urban planning, local policy, and community-driven development solutions to foster environmental justice, improve community health, and build resilience against climate change.
Role Summary: The Deputy Program Director will assist in overseeing the successful execution of Earth Care’s environmental justice initiatives, managing staff, partnerships, budgets, and program development and implementation. This role requires a dedicated leader with extensive experience in community organizing, advocacy, and environmental justice.
Key Projects:
Community-Led Health Assessment: Utilizing a Health Impact Assessment to establish a foundation for cumulative impacts assessment while considering land-use development proposals.
Citizen-Science Air-Monitoring Project: Focused on emissions from an asphalt plant to empower students and residents with data to inform community advocacy efforts.
Deputy Director Responsibilities:
-Support the Program Director in project design and execution, ensuring alignment with program goals.
-Manage and mentor staff, including Lead Organizer and project teams.
-Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and residents.
-Facilitate the collaborative problem-solving framework, engaging public institutions, business leaders, decision-makers, youth, and families.
-Assist in financial management, including budget oversight and grant management.
-Conduct evaluations of project progress and impact, providing feedback and adjusting strategies as necessary.
-Lead specific aspects of the Health Impact Assessment and citizen-science air-monitoring initiatives.
-Document project outcomes, track deliverables, and compile comprehensive reports.
-Facilitate and manage working groups and community meetings.
-Coordinate and support the engagement campaign, working with youth and parent leaders to educate, engage, and organize families and neighbors.
-Ensure bilingual (Spanish/English) communication and engagement strategies are effectively implemented.
Minimum Requirements:
-Minimum of 5 years of experience in community organizing, advocacy, and/or environmental justice.
-Proven experience managing projects, including staff, partnerships, and budgets.
-Background in program development and implementation.
-Bicultural and bilingual (Spanish/English) fluency is essential.
-Experience managing grants and financial oversight.
-Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to lead and inspire diverse teams and stakeholders.
-Knowledge of environmental science and public health issues, particularly related to community health assessments and air quality monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Understanding of and relationships within the southside Santa Fe community.
-Master’s degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
-Experience participating in and managing research projects.
