Position Overview:At KIPP NYC, we are committed to advocating for equitable access to resources, protecting rights to school choice for all parents/guardians and families, and improving access to a high-quality public education for all children in New York City and across the state. The Advocacy Manager will be responsible for organizing KIPP NYC parents/families to be able to influence local and state educational policies and politics. Reporting to the KIPP NYC Director, Advocacy, the Manager will play a key role in our schools by training and empowering parents to be leaders in their communities. An ideal candidate for this position should have a passion for education reform and a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with parents/families, alumni and staff.  They should also be able to organize local parent/family engagement activities and travel to the elected engagement programs.This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. It is important that you notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate.Responsibilities and Duties:Maintain and expand family leader base through high quality, mission-driven family engagement events and trainings Support and execute KIPP NYC’s community stakeholder outreach programSupport Regional Family Advisory (RFAC) meetings Lead voter registration efforts for KIPP NYC Attend Community and NECN Parent council meetings, CEC and CB meetings with families and Advocacy coordinators, including meeting coordination and briefingsAttend and Engage PTA and School Family Council meetings to build meaningful relationships with staff and familiesSupport school-based advocacy coordinators in meeting advocacy goalsServe as a regional liaison to the NY Alumni AssociationManage all data pertaining to advocacy work in the database including outreach to elected officials, parent/alumni participation, and other relevant metrics.Local travel to KIPP NYC schools and evening community events, travel to Albany for advocacy eventsDevelop and maintain strong partnerships with key community stakeholders, including local police precincts, youth-serving Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), neighborhood associations, and civic leaders to support student and family needs.Facilitate regional workshops or engagement opportunities, and cross-collaborate with school-based programmatic workshops and engagement opportunities that connect families and students with trusted community resources and services.Build trust and rapport with youth and families by regularly attending school-based and community events and being a visible presence across campuses and neighborhoods.
