JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for supporting the day-to-day clinic responsibilities of Nevada’s premier hand to shoulder center of excellence.

Our practice provides the most up to date techniques and procedures with a focused interest in the care and treatment of injuries and illnesses affecting the upper extremity from the hand to shoulder. We pride ourselves on accessibility to patients, insurance carriers, adjusters, and referring physicians. By giving each patient the time and attention required for their specific condition, we believe we can effectively render excellent care while listening to their concerns, issues, and addressing their questions.

This position works in coordination with our physicians, medical assistants, and front office specialists in enhancing the care team for optimal delivery of high quality orthopedic upper extremity care.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of 1-year experience in orthopedics preferred

Minimum of 1-year experience working with Workers’ Compensation preferred

Minimum of 1-year experience verifying medical benefits and eligibility required

Minimum of 1-year experience utilizing insurance portals for benefit verifications

2-5 years’ experience in a medical office setting preferred

High school education or GED equivalency required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Verifies insurance coverage and benefits utilizing all available verification and eligibility tools and calls payers when needed.

Documents all ascertained information into the EHR system.

Verifies and/or obtains the necessary referral, authorization, or pre-certification prior to services being provided as required by the payer.

Obtains the patient’s information to facilitate the verification of the unique patient identifiers for clinical purposes, billing and collections process, and compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.

Estimate self-pay portions after benefits have been determined (deductibles, co-pays, non-covered services).

Documents and follows up on efforts to promote team and clinic awareness.

Collects up-to-date demographic information from patients and families.

Consistently follow through with tasks and responsibilities without the need for reminders

Actively participates with the care team by providing reliable and proactive assistance

Further clinic support tasks as determined by practice administration

Further the mission of the practice by being a team player- always ready and willing to care for patients with all tasks given

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Computer skills and incorporation of technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, electronic medical records use and application

Adherence to HIPAA guidelines

Basic knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding

Medical Coding - Knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and ICD-10 diagnostic coding.

Active communication skills, including written and spoken

Critical thinking

The ability to recognize problems, identify solutions or route to coworkers for solution

Ability to multi-task

Basic principles of revenue cycle management

Spanish language skills preferred, but not required

Must be comfortable with being a team player, flexible

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Sedentary (exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally)

Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time

Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from ¾ of the time

Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.

Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form

COMPENSATION DETAILS:

Salary commensurate with experience
