OverviewThe surgical technologist clinical coordinator will provide support to the OR RN Clinical Coordinator to coordinate the evaluation, ordering, and implementation of instrumentation, equipment and supplies within a specific service line. The position works collaboratively with the Sterile Processing Department and service line physicians.Responsibilities
Works with the OR RN Clinical Coordinator to evaluate surgeon requests for new instruments.
Coordinates with the OR RN Clinical Coordinator, Sterile Processing manager, vendors and surgeon offices for specific surgical case needs.
Works with materials management & sterile processing staff and OR RN Clinical Coordinator to inventory specialty items, check outdates on products, and talk to product represntatives about costs and requested products. Periodically reviews specialty case cart supplies, custom packs, etc., to determine cost effectiveness.
Works with OR RN Clinical Coordinator and Billing & Documentation specialist on preference cards and preference card changes.
Acts as a preceptor for all new staff members.
Provides input in the hiring process.
Is a resource for the OR RN Clinical Coordinator regarding changes and management of equipment, personal preference cards or staffing issues.
Identifies educational needs for the team and surgeons and facilitates, in conjunction with the Clinical Educator, in-services for new equipment or instruments and staff orientation.
Is knowledgeable and understands surgical standards, policies and procedures as they relate to the Surgical Technician role and validates team members are following them appropriately.
Takes “call” as assigned and scrubs for specialty procedures as well as other OR procedures.
Is knowledgeable and supportive of the Organization’s Director’s strategic goals and initiatives.
Inspires others in professional goal attainment and is supportive of the OR Shared Governance model.
Understands that conflict is a naturally occurring event and will actively work with others to facilitate real-time positive resolution.
Facilitates mentoring relationships with their team.
Must be able to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent and completion of Surgical Technology training at an accredited school with certification.Surgical Tech certification.Minimum of 2 years in an acute surgical setting or GI clinical setting. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and their associated care; knowledge of surgical supplies and equipment and knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis and infection control principles.
